Jaguar has provided the first official look inside the Type 01, revealing a dramatic four-seat cabin that carries several of the Type 00 concept’s boldest ideas into production.
The electric grand tourer represents a major step in Jaguar’s reinvention. It will become the first production model built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture and is being designed, developed and manufactured in the UK.
Following an appearance by a camouflaged prototype at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the complete Type 01 will be unveiled in New York on 6 October.
Central spine creates four individual spaces
The defining feature of the Type 01 interior is a central spine running through the full length of the cabin.
Rather than using a conventional centre console that ends between the front seats, Jaguar has extended the structure into the rear compartment. This divides the cabin into four distinct seating spaces and emphasises the car’s long grand-tourer proportions.
A brass-inspired finish covers the top of the spine and continues along the doors, where it incorporates Jaguar’s revised Leaper emblem.
Jaguar says the interior colour and material choices were influenced by travertine stone and artisan textiles. The result is a softer and more restrained environment than the striking exterior design first previewed by the Type 00 concept.
Low seating position reinforces the GT character
Jaguar has positioned the driver low in the Type 01, with the surrounding dashboard and centre structure designed to create a more enclosed cockpit.
That is an important decision for an electric grand tourer. Battery placement can leave occupants sitting higher than expected in some EVs, but Jaguar is attempting to preserve the low driving position traditionally associated with sporting luxury cars.
The Type 01 is not intended to be another conventional electric SUV. Its four-door GT shape and driver-focused seating position are central to Jaguar’s attempt to establish a more exclusive place in the electric-car market.
Technology designed to remain hidden
The slim dashboard introduces a deliberately restrained approach to infotainment.
Digital controls are integrated into the architecture and intended to appear when required, rather than dominating the cabin permanently. Jaguar also refers to concealed storage compartments and other hidden-until-needed technology.
A digital ClearSight Rear View Display is positioned at the base of the windscreen. It sits at approximately the same height as the exterior mirrors, which Jaguar says should help the driver move their focus more naturally between the different rearward views.
The unusual position will distinguish the Type 01 from vehicles that place a digital mirror in the traditional roof-mounted location. Its real-world usability will become clearer once the production model is available for independent testing.
A concept-car idea moving towards production
The Type 01 cabin matters because it demonstrates how much of Jaguar’s new design language has survived the transition from concept to production.
The central spine, strong linear shapes and minimal visible technology all reflect ideas introduced by the Type 00. However, the interior also appears more usable and production-ready than the deliberately theatrical concept.
Jaguar describes the model as the beginning of a new generation. “Type” references notable cars from the company’s past, while “0” denotes zero tailpipe emissions and “1” identifies it as the first vehicle in this new era.
Important details remain unconfirmed
Jaguar has not used this interior preview to announce the Type 01’s battery capacity, range, charging performance, motor output or pricing.
Those details will be crucial. Distinctive design can establish the car’s identity, but its competitiveness will also depend on efficiency, rapid-charging capability, software quality and long-distance refinement.
The dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture should give the company greater freedom over the car’s proportions, dynamics and cabin layout than a platform shared with a conventional combustion model.
For now, the Type 01 interior provides the clearest evidence yet that Jaguar intends to place design and exclusivity ahead of mass-market appeal.
Jaguar’s electric reinvention takes shape
Jaguar’s strategy remains ambitious, particularly as the wider premium EV market becomes increasingly competitive.
The Type 01 will need to justify the company’s dramatic change of direction while attracting customers who may also be considering established luxury brands and newer electric-car manufacturers.
Its cabin delivers the visual impact expected from Jaguar’s new identity without appearing entirely disconnected from the requirements of a production car. Long-distance refinement and software execution will be especially important, as demonstrated by Tech Torque Media’s Peugeot E-3008 long-term review.
The full unveiling on 6 October should establish whether the technology beneath that design is equally distinctive.

Tech Torque Verdict
Jaguar’s Type 01 interior demonstrates the brand’s ambition to move further into the premium EV market. The minimalist design, distinctive materials and technology-focused cabin create a strong first impression. However, pricing, practicality and real-world ownership experience will ultimately determine how successfully it challenges established luxury EV rivals.
