Rockstar Games has finally broken its silence on the recent Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks, describing the situation as “heartbreaking for our team” while urging players to wait for the official experience.
The statement arrives after days of unauthorised GTA VI footage spreading online and just one day before Rockstar’s planned extended look at the game. Crucially, the studio has not changed its reveal plans and has again pointed to 19 November 2026 as the release date.
For players trying to avoid spoilers, that is probably the most useful takeaway: Rockstar is acknowledging the leaks, but the official marketing campaign is continuing as planned.
Rockstar calls the GTA VI leaks “heartbreaking”
In its first public response to the latest leak wave, Rockstar said having GTA VI gameplay videos appear online in this way had been “heartbreaking for our team” and was not how it wanted players to see the game after such a long development period.
The studio also acknowledged the lengthy wait for more official information, saying the game is now “nearly there” and apologising for how long it has taken both to finish development and to share more with the community.
Rockstar’s comments were reported by Video Games Chronicle and Kotaku, both of which published the studio’s response on 26 August.
Rockstar is warning players about spoilers
The most important part of the statement for anyone waiting for GTA VI is Rockstar’s acknowledgement that some of the intended experience may already have been affected by spoilers.

Rather than cancelling or delaying its next reveal, Rockstar says it is excited for players to see the official extended look on Thursday, 27 August.
Netflix has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere exclusively on the service at 3pm ET, which is 8pm in the UK.
That presentation is now more important than it was a week ago. Rockstar has an opportunity to reset the conversation around GTA VI with footage selected, captured and presented on its own terms rather than allowing leaked material to define expectations.
It should also give players a much clearer indication of what GTA VI actually looks like close to launch. Rockstar’s “nearly there” wording is notable with less than three months remaining until release, but it should not be read as evidence of another delay. The studio has explicitly repeated the 19 November date in the same statement.
