The Range Rover has gone fully electric for the first time, with the production Range Rover Electric combining a 118.5kWh usable battery, up to 372 miles of WLTP range and 350kW rapid charging.
After years of prototypes, testing and previews, JLR has finally revealed the electric version of its flagship luxury SUV in full. The headline figures are substantial: twin electric motors, 542bhp, 850Nm of torque, 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and a quoted 10-80% rapid-charge time of around 22 minutes.
For the UK, there is another important part of the story. Range Rover Electric will be built at JLR’s Solihull plant in the West Midlands, while the company’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton will support production of its battery packs and electric drive units.
UK pricing starts at £154,070, with order books open now, firmly positioning the new EV at the top end of the luxury electric SUV market rather than as a mainstream alternative.
Range Rover Electric gets a 118.5kWh usable battery
At the centre of the new Range Rover Electric is a usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery. JLR describes it as a double-stacked pack using 344 cells, integrated into an 800-volt electrical architecture.
According to Range Rover’s UK specifications, the official WLTP range reaches up to 372 miles, while the company estimates a real-world figure of around 333 miles.
A battery this large inevitably makes efficiency important. Range Rover has not tried to build a lightweight electric SUV; instead, the engineering approach appears to prioritise the refinement, capability and long-distance character buyers already expect from the model.
The real test will be how closely the 333-mile estimate reflects motorway and winter driving, particularly given the size, weight and performance available. That is something only independent real-world testing will properly establish once production cars are on UK roads.
350kW charging puts it among the fastest luxury EVs
Range Rover Electric supports DC rapid charging at up to 350kW, with JLR quoting a 10-80% charging time of around 22 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful charger and under suitable conditions.
The company also says up to 136 miles of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes. For an EV carrying more than 118kWh of usable battery capacity, that charging performance matters because a large pack is only genuinely useful on long journeys if it can be replenished quickly.
The 800-volt system is paired with Range Rover’s ThermAssist thermal-management technology, which the company says can reduce heating energy use by up to 40%. 542bhp, 850Nm and 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds
Performance comes from two permanent-magnet electric motors, one at each axle. Each motor is rated at 260kW, with combined output quoted at 542bhp and 850Nm of torque.
That is enough for 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, giving the electric model performance comfortably in keeping with Range Rover’s existing high-output versions.
But outright acceleration is not the main engineering story. JLR says its new traction-management system can adjust torque far faster than a combustion-engine driveline, while single-pedal driving has been integrated with Terrain Response to work away from conventional roads as well as in normal traffic.
It is still intended to behave like a Range Rover off-road
One of the more interesting aspects of the electric conversion is how much emphasis JLR has placed on retaining traditional Range Rover capability.
The production vehicle can wade through water up to 900mm deep and tow up to 2,500kg. Range Rover also says the EV can tackle slopes of up to 45 degrees using its single-pedal driving system and Terrain Response technology.
Those figures reinforce the company’s stated approach of creating a Range Rover first and an EV second. Rather than reinventing the vehicle around electric propulsion, the battery and motors have been integrated into the existing MLA-Flex architecture while preserving the proportions, cabin concept and broad capability of the current model.
Built in Solihull, with electric powertrain production in Wolverhampton
The West Midlands manufacturing story makes this launch particularly significant for the British car industry.
In its official UK launch announcement, JLR confirmed that Range Rover Electric will be produced at Solihull, where Range Rover manufacturing dates back to 1970.
JLR says 9,000 manufacturing employees at Solihull have been upskilled for electrification, with another 1,500 colleagues trained across its wider West Midlands operations. The Wolverhampton Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre now produces battery packs and electric drive units alongside combustion engines.
That means the Range Rover Electric is not simply a British-badged EV assembled from an imported drivetrain. A meaningful part of its electric powertrain and final vehicle production sits within JLR’s established UK manufacturing network.
A £154,070 starting price keeps it firmly in flagship territory
UK pricing starts at £154,070 for the EV550 Autobiography, according to Autocar’s launch reporting.
That makes one thing clear: Range Rover is not using electric propulsion to broaden the model’s appeal through price. The electric version enters the market as a six-figure luxury flagship, where buyers are paying for the badge, cabin, refinement, capability and specification as much as the battery technology.
It also leaves the Range Rover Electric competing for attention with established luxury electric SUVs such as the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV, while occupying an even more expensive part of the market in many configurations.

Tech Torque Verdict
Range Rover Electric has taken a long time to reach this point, but the production specification is much more convincing than another teaser or concept would have been.
A 372-mile WLTP range, 350kW charging and 22-minute 10-80% time give the vehicle the kind of long-distance numbers a flagship electric SUV needs. The more interesting engineering story, though, is that JLR has tried to deliver those figures without abandoning the off-road capability, refinement and familiar character that define the Range Rover.
The £154,070 starting price places it beyond the reach of most EV buyers, and the enormous battery means real-world efficiency will deserve close scrutiny. But as a statement of where JLR’s electrification programme has reached — and as a major new EV being built in Solihull with powertrain support from Wolverhampton — this is one of the most significant British electric-car launches of 2026.
