Dacia has revealed the completely new, second-generation Spring EV, introducing a 27.5kWh usable LFP battery, up to 155 miles of WLTP range, a 50kW DC fast-charging option and production in Europe on Renault Group’s new small-car EV platform.
The new Spring is the first of four fully electric vehicles Dacia plans to launch by 2030 and represents a much bigger technical reset than the familiar name might suggest.
According to Dacia’s official announcement, the second-generation model has been fully redesigned around Renault Group’s new RG-EV small platform and will be built at Novo Mesto in Slovenia.
A completely new Dacia Spring
Dacia says more than 210,000 examples of the first-generation Spring have been sold across more than 40 countries since 2021. Rather than simply updating that car again, the company has changed the underlying platform, proportions, drivetrain and interior for generation two.
The new car is 18cm wider than before, giving it a broader stance while also creating more interior room. It remains firmly positioned as a compact A-segment EV, but the move to the RG-EV architecture brings it onto a much newer technical base.
Production is also moving to Europe, with the Spring set to be manufactured in Slovenia. That change is significant for a car whose role is to make electric motoring more accessible rather than chase ever-larger batteries, higher outputs and premium pricing.
27.5kWh LFP battery and up to 155 miles of range
Energy comes from a 27.5kWh usable lithium iron phosphate battery, with Dacia claiming up to 250km — around 155 miles — on the WLTP combined cycle.
The single electric motor produces 60kW, or 80hp, and 175Nm of torque. Dacia quotes 0-100km/h in 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 130km/h, or roughly 81mph.
Those figures make the Spring very different from the increasingly powerful EVs arriving elsewhere in the market. Its focus remains everyday urban and short-distance driving rather than outright performance.
Dacia says connected data from first-generation Spring owners shows an average daily distance of 34km, with 75% of charging taking place at home. That helps explain why the company has continued with a relatively small battery rather than increasing capacity simply to chase a larger headline range figure.

50kW DC charging is available as part of a fast-charge pack
The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW. Dacia says a 15-80% charge takes nine hours from a domestic socket, five hours 40 minutes from a heavy-duty socket and two hours 55 minutes from a 7kW wallbox.
A separate fast-charge pack adds an 11kW AC charger and 50kW DC capability. With that fitted, Dacia quotes 15-80% in one hour 55 minutes on an 11kW three-phase AC supply, while a 50kW DC charger can complete the same 15-80% window in 28 minutes.
Fifty kilowatts is modest compared with the charging peaks offered by larger and more expensive electric cars, but the Spring is working with a much smaller battery. For the intended use case, the more useful figure is arguably the 28-minute charging window rather than the maximum charging-power number on its own.
More technology inside
Every version announced today receives a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Dacia’s Media Control system uses the driver’s smartphone alongside steering-wheel controls, while the higher Journey specification adds a 10.1-inch Media Nav Live touchscreen.
That system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected navigation, charge scheduling, cabin pre-conditioning and vehicle tracking. Dacia says connected navigation is included for eight years.
The Spring also gains an electric parking brake and rear parking sensors across the announced range, while the Journey specification adds a reversing camera. Its turning radius is quoted at 4.95 metres, reinforcing the car’s urban focus.
The first step in Dacia’s wider EV plan
The new Spring is not an isolated model launch. In its 2030 strategic roadmap published in March, Dacia confirmed plans for four fully electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
At that stage, the company said its new European-built A-segment EV would target a starting price below €18,000. Dacia has not announced UK pricing for the second-generation Spring in today’s global reveal, so that earlier euro target should not be treated as a direct indication of what British buyers will eventually pay.
The timing is also notable as electric cars continue to take a larger share of the European market. Tech Torque Media recently reported on the rise in European EV sales, and accessible small cars could become increasingly important if manufacturers want that growth to spread beyond larger and more expensive models.
Tech Torque Verdict
The second-generation Spring looks more interesting because Dacia has resisted turning it into something it was never intended to be. A 27.5kWh battery and 50kW maximum DC charging will not win a specifications contest, but they make considerably more sense when viewed alongside a 155-mile WLTP range, compact dimensions and the car’s everyday urban role.
The biggest unanswered question is price. If Dacia can carry its value-led approach into the new generation while adding the newer platform, LFP battery, improved cabin technology and European production, the Spring could remain one of the more distinctive small EVs on the market.
