Alpine has confirmed Franco Colapinto will remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season, completing an unchanged driver line-up alongside Pierre Gasly.
The announcement gives Alpine continuity at a crucial point in its rebuild, with Colapinto earning another season after a clear step forward during the 2026 campaign.
According to Alpine’s official announcement, the Argentine has scored 19 World Championship points across six of the first 12 Grands Prix this season, including a career-best sixth-place finish in Montréal.
Colapinto earns another season at Alpine
Colapinto joined Alpine as a reserve driver for 2025 before stepping into the race seat in place of Jack Doohan. He was retained for 2026 and has since delivered the strongest run of form of his Formula 1 career.
A tenth-place finish in China was followed by seventh in Miami before Colapinto improved again with sixth in Montréal. Alpine says his development, growing confidence and relationship with the team have helped justify the decision to keep him alongside Gasly.
Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore said consistency is important for Alpine and stressed that, while settling the driver line-up matters, the team’s biggest priority remains designing and building a faster race car.
Gasly and Colapinto give Alpine stability for 2027
Pierre Gasly is already committed to Alpine beyond next season, meaning the team can now head into 2027 with both race seats settled.
That continuity removes one of the uncertainties around Alpine as it continues trying to move closer to Formula 1’s leading teams. Colapinto has also built a strong working relationship with Gasly, something Formula 1 highlighted when confirming the extension.
The decision also takes Colapinto out of the 2027 driver market relatively early, allowing Alpine to focus on performance rather than speculation over its line-up.
Attention now turns to Monza
The timing is useful for Alpine because the announcement comes just ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Formula 1 reports that Colapinto is due to receive the upgraded package Alpine introduced ahead of schedule on Gasly’s car at Zandvoort, giving him an immediate opportunity to build on the confidence of his new deal.

Tech Torque Verdict
Keeping Colapinto makes sense for Alpine.
He has improved during 2026, appears increasingly settled alongside Gasly and has now produced the kind of results Alpine needed to see before committing to another season.
The bigger question is no longer who will drive the car in 2027. It is whether Alpine can turn that stability into a package capable of fighting closer to the front.
