Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ Brings Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to the EV Cabin

Mahindra’s BE 6 SPORTEQ combines Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, a triple-screen cockpit, gaming and AI. We explore what it means for in-car entertainment and whether it could reach the UK.

Cars are rapidly becoming more than machines for getting from A to B. Larger displays, app stores, gaming, streaming services and increasingly sophisticated audio systems are turning modern EV cabins into digital entertainment spaces — and Mahindra’s latest BE 6 SPORTEQ pushes that idea further than most.

Announced in India on 15 August 2026, the Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ introduces a new software-led entertainment suite combining Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, in-car gaming, karaoke and a coast-to-coast triple-screen cockpit on selected variants.

It raises an interesting question for the wider car industry: are premium home-cinema technologies about to become a normal part of the in-car experience?

What is new on the BE 6 SPORTEQ?

SPORTEQ is a new version of Mahindra’s electric BE 6, offered across eight variants. From the TWO specification upwards, Mahindra fits three displays stretching across the dashboard to create what it calls a coast-to-coast digital cockpit.

The more significant change, however, is software. Mahindra’s MAIA artificial-intelligence architecture powers six new TEQ suites covering entertainment, voice interaction, driving functions, personalisation and security.

For home-entertainment fans, TEQ_Play is the standout. Mahindra says it includes karaoke, an in-car gaming suite with bring-your-own-device support, Private Audio, GrooveMe Party and — most notably — Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

The result is a cabin concept that starts to look less like a conventional infotainment system and more like a compact connected entertainment platform.

Why Dolby Vision matters inside a car

Dolby Vision is normally associated with televisions and streaming devices rather than dashboards. It is a high dynamic range format designed to deliver greater contrast, brighter highlights, deeper blacks and a wider range of colour when supported by the display and content.

Inside a vehicle, the use case is naturally different. Video entertainment is most relevant when the vehicle is parked, charging, waiting for passengers or when screens are available to occupants who are not driving. Any playback implementation also needs to respect local driver-distraction rules and the carmaker’s own safety controls.

But with EV charging stops often lasting longer than a petrol or diesel refuel, manufacturers increasingly have an obvious window in which richer entertainment features can make sense.

Dolby Atmos could be the more important feature

Dolby Atmos may have a stronger everyday case because it does not depend on occupants watching a screen. Dolby describes its automotive implementation as an immersive audio experience designed to place listeners at the centre of the sound, with greater separation, depth and detail.

For anyone familiar with a proper home Atmos system, the principle is easy to understand. The car cabin is much smaller and more tightly controlled than a living room, which gives engineers a very different acoustic environment to work with. Mahindra has already demonstrated its ambitions here: higher-specification versions of the original BE 6 have used the company’s Sonic Studio setup, combining a 1,400-watt, 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos.

The SPORTEQ announcement concentrates more heavily on the new software experience and Dolby Vision integration, so exact audio hardware can still vary by version. What matters is that Mahindra is treating immersive audio as part of the vehicle’s digital architecture rather than simply adding a more powerful stereo.

Three screens, gaming and Google Gemini

The entertainment story extends beyond Dolby. From the TWO variant upwards, the BE 6 SPORTEQ uses three displays across the dashboard, while Mahindra’s TEQ_Talk system uses Google Gemini to provide conversational access to navigation, entertainment, news, climate and other vehicle functions.

That places the BE 6 firmly in the emerging software-defined vehicle category, where entertainment, navigation and cabin functions are increasingly tied together through software that can evolve after the car has left the factory.

Will the Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ be available in the UK?

Not yet. The BE 6 SPORTEQ has been announced for India, with Indian pricing and deliveries beginning on 26 August 2026. Mahindra has not announced a UK launch date for the SPORTEQ range.

There is still reason for UK buyers to watch the brand. In September 2025, Mahindra Automotive Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta told Acko Drive that the UK was “on the horizon”, with the company considering a launch within 18 to 24 months. If that plan remains on course, it points broadly towards 2027, although no firm date, model specification or SPORTEQ availability has been confirmed.

For UK readers, the significance of the BE 6 SPORTEQ is not its immediate availability, but what Mahindra is already putting into production elsewhere. With no confirmed UK launch date, the model remains an international proposition for now, while offering a useful reference point for the level of in-car technology appearing in newer global EVs.

Is cinema-grade in-car entertainment genuinely useful?

There is an obvious risk of feature overload. A car still needs to be easy to drive, safe to operate and intuitive enough that technology does not become a distraction.

However, Dolby Atmos is not restricted to parked entertainment. Music is part of almost every journey, and a well-integrated immersive audio system can be enjoyed without changing how the car is used. Dolby Vision is more situational, but it becomes easier to justify in EVs where drivers and passengers may spend meaningful periods stationary at rapid chargers.

The BE 6 SPORTEQ therefore matters less because every driver needs to watch Dolby Vision content in a car and more because it demonstrates how quickly the boundary between automotive infotainment and consumer electronics is disappearing.

That crossover is already visible elsewhere in the market. Tech Torque Verdict

The Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ is one of the clearest examples yet of the car becoming a full digital entertainment environment. Dolby Atmos has obvious everyday appeal, while Dolby Vision, gaming and the triple-screen cockpit show how manufacturers are beginning to design EV cabins around downtime as well as driving.

UK availability remains unconfirmed, so British buyers should not treat the SPORTEQ as an imminent showroom option. Internationally, though, it is a fascinating glimpse at where connected-car entertainment is heading — and a reminder that the next battle between EV manufacturers may be fought as much through software, screens and sound as through range and acceleration.
