Slow Horses has barely settled into its sixth season, but Apple TV has already secured the future of Slough House through season eight.
The acclaimed British spy drama returned on 16 September with a six-episode sixth season, released weekly through 21 October. With season seven already ordered and season eight now confirmed, Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is guaranteed plenty more time to insult colleagues, outmanoeuvre MI5 and somehow keep his dysfunctional team alive.

Season six is airing now
Season six adapts material from Mick Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels in the Slough House series.
Apple confirmed the six-episode season would begin on 16 September, with one episode arriving each week until 21 October. Its official synopsis puts the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner draws them into a high-stakes cycle of retaliation and revenge.
The series remains one of Apple TV’s most distinctive long-running dramas, built around the mix of espionage, dark humour and deliberately unglamorous spy work that separates Slough House from more polished intelligence thrillers.

Apple TV released the official season-six trailer ahead of the September premiere, offering a spoiler-light look at the trouble facing Slough House this time around.
Season seven adapts Bad Actors
Apple confirmed season seven in July 2025. The six-episode run is based on Bad Actors, the eighth novel in Herron’s Slough House series.
Its premise puts Lamb and the Slow Horses on the hunt for a mole inside the British Government before that person can bring down the state. Apple has not announced a release date.
Season seven is a full commission rather than an early development announcement. Ben Vanstone is adapting and executive producing the season, with Robert McKillop attached to direct.
Season eight moves on to Clown Town
Apple went a step further on 15 September 2026, confirming a six-episode eighth season based on Clown Town, the ninth Slough House novel.
The official synopsis says Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner will face their most explosive confrontation yet after a failed attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive. Lamb then has to uncover one of MI5’s darkest secrets.
Ben Vanstone will return as adapter and executive producer for season eight, with Adam Randall set to direct. As with season seven, no release date has been announced.
What Apple’s early renewals tell us
Confirming two future seasons while season six is still airing gives Slow Horses an unusually clear runway. It means the series can continue working through Herron’s novels without viewers having to wonder whether each season might become an unexpected endpoint.
It also reflects the confidence Apple has shown in the series over several years. Rather than treating every renewal as a last-minute decision, the streamer has repeatedly committed to the next chapter well ahead of release.

Season six still has plenty to reveal, so there is little reason to chase plot detail too far ahead. But with seasons seven and eight officially locked in, Slough House is going nowhere.
