LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Deep Rock Galactic and Grim Fandango Remastered are among nine games leaving Xbox Game Pass on 31 October. Here’s what to play first and what happens to your saves.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an easy game to dip into, but a much harder one to finish if you get distracted by every character and collectible. It’s also one of nine games due to leave Xbox Game Pass on Saturday 31 October 2026, alongside Deep Rock Galactic, Wartales and three remastered adventure classics.

Microsoft’s official Game Pass Wave 2 announcement on 20 October confirms nine departures. Earlier Leaving Soon reports identified eight; Microsoft’s updated list includes Grim Fandango Remastered as the ninth title. All nine are listed for cloud, console and PC, although the version you can play still depends on your membership and region.

Updated 21 October 2026: We have revised this guide following Microsoft’s official 20 October announcement. Grim Fandango Remastered is now included, taking the total from eight to nine. The updated list also confirms PC availability for Wildgate. The 31 October removal date is unchanged.

Leaving Game Pass means losing access through your subscription; it does not mean the games are closing down or being withdrawn from sale. Microsoft now confirms Wildgate for PC as well as console and cloud. Check the catalogue on your account for the edition and membership access you have before spending money on a replacement copy.

LEGO Star Wars: finish a trilogy or keep exploring?

Of the nine departures, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be the most familiar to casual players. Its nine-film adventure is packed with planets to explore, characters to unlock and things to collect. Playing through the films is one challenge; seeing absolutely everything is quite another.

If you’re already part-way through, finishing a film trilogy makes more sense than chasing every collectible before 31 October. New players can still get a feel for the combat, humour and exploration in an evening. If you want to keep hunting everything afterwards, you’ll need access outside Game Pass.

Deep Rock Galactic: one more run with your crew

If you usually play with friends, Deep Rock Galactic may be the one you’ll miss most. Four-player squads of space dwarves head into hostile caves, complete a mining mission and hope to make it out alive. Each expedition is a complete session, so there’s still plenty to enjoy without trying to race through its long-term progression.

Get your usual crew together for another drop while Game Pass access lasts. If it’s become part of your weekly routine, it’s worth considering whether a separate purchase makes more sense than an abrupt stop at the end of the month.

Wartales is the hardest one to rush

A deadline is awkward for Wartales. Shiro Games’ tactical RPG asks you to recruit mercenaries, pay and feed them, explore new territory and survive turn-based fights. Even getting a company into decent shape can swallow several evenings.

Anyone with dozens of hours in a campaign should aim for a natural stopping point, not a frantic dash to the credits. If you’ve never played it, there’s still time to sample the combat and management systems, but a substantial campaign is unlikely to fit comfortably into the days remaining.

Three LucasArts classics worth revisiting

Day of the Tentacle Remastered, Full Throttle Remastered and the newly confirmed Grim Fandango Remastered make an appealing trio if you would rather play a self-contained adventure than start another lengthy campaign.

Their stories could hardly be more different. Day of the Tentacle is a time-travel puzzle comedy; Full Throttle follows a biker caught up in a dangerous conspiracy; and Grim Fandango blends noir mystery with a wonderfully strange Land of the Dead. All three return to classic LucasArts adventures in remastered form.

TrueAchievements estimates roughly two to three hours to collect all achievements in Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle, although working through puzzles without a guide can take longer. Do not assume the same completion time for Grim Fandango; it is worth making time for its story rather than rushing the final chapters.

Three very different games complete the list

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris takes Tomb Raider in an isometric, co-operative direction, mixing puzzles and combat for up to four players. A session with friends makes a good alternative to diving into another lengthy single-player adventure.

Dead Static Drive takes a very different route, blending an unsettling drive through 1980s America with scavenging and survival horror. Wildgate is a crew-based PvPvE space game, where ship combat and the race for valuable loot demand teamwork. Choose whichever genuinely sounds fun rather than downloading both just to tick them off a list.

What happens to your games and saves after 31 October?

Microsoft’s Game Pass FAQ states that subscribers have access while their membership is active and a title remains in the catalogue. Once a game leaves, keeping it downloaded on your console or PC is not enough to launch it without another valid licence.

Your achievements and saves are normally retained. Buying a compatible edition later will generally let you carry on using the same Xbox account, but PC-to-console transfers and cloud-save support vary between games. Make sure the latest save has synced before switching devices, and check which edition you’re buying.

If you own a game separately, its removal from Game Pass does not revoke your purchase. The reverse is also important: buying an expansion or DLC while a base game is on Game Pass does not necessarily give you that base game permanently.

What should you do before these nine games leave?

  • Look in the Xbox Game Pass catalogue or the console and mobile apps, and confirm the Leaving Soon date and version on your own account.
  • Pick one realistic goal: a LEGO Star Wars episode, a Wartales milestone or a final Deep Rock Galactic session with friends.
  • Allow time for any supported cloud save to sync before your access ends, particularly if you plan to switch devices.
  • If you want permanent access, check the actual UK store price and the specific edition you’re considering. Discounts and sale periods are not guaranteed.
  • Do not bank on a return date. None has been confirmed for these departures.

If you’re looking for something new afterwards, our October Game Pass additions report covers Battlefield 6, Valor Mortis and the other games that joined earlier in the month.

Tech Torque Verdict

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has the widest appeal, but Deep Rock Galactic is arguably the bigger loss for groups who play together every week. Wartales presents the toughest deadline for anyone halfway through a long campaign.

Don’t turn Halloween weekend into a nine-game checklist. Finish a chapter, arrange another co-op night or sample one of the shorter classics. If a game is worth keeping, check the edition and price before paying for it.
