Silverstone has never been about brute engine power alone. Instead, it’s a circuit that rewards aerodynamic confidence, mechanical balance and driver commitment.

Why Energy Recovery Matters More Than You Might Think

Under the current regulations, electrical deployment has become increasingly important.

While Austria offered several heavy braking zones for harvesting energy, Silverstone presents a very different challenge.

Many braking events are shorter and taken at much higher speeds, meaning teams must recover energy more efficiently during partial braking while ensuring enough electrical power remains available along the circuit’s long straights.

Managing that balance could prove just as important as outright engine performance.


Silverstone’s Biggest Victim: The Front-Left Tyre

Few circuits punish tyres quite like Silverstone.

The long sequence of high-speed right-hand corners repeatedly loads the front-left tyre, generating enormous lateral forces.

Pirelli has therefore selected its hardest compounds for the weekend:

  • C1 Hard
  • C2 Medium
  • C3 Soft

Sprint weekends also reduce tyre allocations, meaning teams have fewer opportunities to experiment with different setups.

Keeping tyre temperatures under control while maintaining peak performance will be one of the defining engineering challenges of the weekend.

Mercedes

Mercedes arrives at Silverstone with encouraging momentum and a package that should suit the circuit’s flowing nature. If the team can maximise tyre management and energy deployment, it could be a genuine contender for victory.

McLaren

McLaren continues to impress with its aerodynamic development and has looked increasingly competitive through high-speed corners. Silverstone has traditionally suited the team’s strengths, making it one of the favourites to challenge at the front.

Red Bull

Red Bull remains capable of producing outstanding race pace, but attention will be on how effectively it manages energy deployment and aerodynamic efficiency after the challenges seen in Austria.

Ferrari

Ferrari will be hoping to translate simulator performance into consistent race pace and avoid the operational mistakes that have occasionally compromised strong weekends.
