Apple has unveiled AirPods 5, bringing Active Noise Cancellation to both models for the first time and setting UK pricing from £119. Pre-orders are open now, with availability beginning on 18 September.
The new generation keeps the familiar open-ear design but adds a redesigned acoustic system, next-generation Adaptive EQ, improved Transparency mode, Personalised Spatial Audio, Live Translation and support for Apple’s new Siri AI features.

Apple is offering two versions of AirPods 5 in the UK. The standard model costs £119, while AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case cost £139. Both include Active Noise Cancellation.

Active Noise Cancellation is now standard
The biggest change is the decision to make Active Noise Cancellation standard across the AirPods 5 range. Apple says the new model can remove up to 50 per cent more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation.
That improvement comes from a new multiport acoustic architecture and updated computational audio. Transparency mode has also been revised to make voices and surrounding sounds feel more natural, while Adaptive Audio can automatically blend Transparency mode and ANC depending on the environment.
Apple also includes Conversation Awareness, which lowers media volume when the wearer starts speaking.
Redesigned sound and Spatial Audio
AirPods 5 use a redesigned acoustic architecture inspired by AirPods Pro 3, alongside a new generation of Adaptive EQ. Apple says the changes are intended to deliver richer and more detailed sound across a wider range of ear shapes.
Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking also returns, giving supported music, films and TV shows a more immersive presentation when used with compatible Apple devices.

Siri AI and Live Translation

The £139 AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case add a force sensor with volume swipe, allowing users to adjust volume directly from the stem. It is the first time Apple has brought that control to its open-ear AirPods design.
