EA and DICE are bringing Top Gun to Battlefield 6, with Wake Island, new air-combat content and the reworked Carrier Strike mode arriving on August 18.
Battlefield 6 is about to get a serious dose of Hollywood-style aerial combat.
EA and DICE have confirmed that the Top Gun crossover arrives in Battlefield 6 on August 18, bringing a limited-time event packed with new modes, aircraft, characters, cosmetics and the return of the iconic Wake Island map.
What is coming to Battlefield 6 with Top Gun?
The headline addition is Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a reworked version of the classic carrier-focused Battlefield experience.
The mode combines infantry, naval and aerial combat, with teams fighting their way towards the opposing aircraft carrier. Ground forces will need to push through enemy lines while naval units help create opportunities for an assault, with fighter pilots providing air support and dealing with enemy aircraft and anti-air defences.
The objective is ultimately to seize and destroy the opposing carrier, putting Battlefield’s combined-arms formula firmly at the centre of the Top Gun crossover.
Wake Island returns
One of Battlefield’s most recognisable locations is also making a comeback.
Wake Island returns to Battlefield 6 multiplayer on August 18, reworked for the scale and gameplay systems of the latest game.
The map originally appeared in Battlefield 1942 and has returned in several forms throughout the franchise. The Battlefield 6 version puts players back into a tropical coastal environment featuring beaches, an airstrip and an offshore aircraft carrier.
Fighter Sweep brings two-seat jets to the skies
The Top Gun crossover isn’t only about Carrier Strike.
Over in Battlefield REDSEC, the Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep mode will focus entirely on aerial combat.
Players will take to the skies in new two-seat fighter jets and battle opposing squadrons while avoiding anti-aircraft fire from below.

Both are two-seat fighters designed around coordinated aerial combat, giving players a new way to work with a wingman during dogfights.
Top Gun characters are joining the fight
The crossover also brings characters inspired by the Top Gun films into Battlefield.
Players will be able to step into the boots of Top Gun characters as part of the new CJTF Helix squad unit, alongside themed challenges, cosmetics and a new limited-time currency.
When does the Battlefield 6 Top Gun event start?
The Battlefield 6 Top Gun event launches on August 18, 2026.
That date also sees the return of Wake Island, the arrival of Top Gun: Carrier Strike and the new aerial content.

The Top Gun crossover makes a surprising amount of sense for Battlefield 6.
The Battlefield formula has always been at its best when infantry, vehicles, ships and aircraft collide on the same battlefield. Carrier Strike appears to lean heavily into exactly that idea, while Fighter Sweep gives the game’s aerial combat its own dedicated spotlight.
The return of Wake Island could be just as important for established Battlefield fans. It combines one of the franchise’s most recognisable maps with the game’s newer systems and expanded naval warfare.
With the update arriving on August 18, Battlefield 6 players won’t have long to wait before finding out whether this particular trip into the Danger Zone delivers.

Tech Torque Verdict
Top Gun is a strong fit for Battlefield 6. The combination of Carrier Strike, Wake Island and dedicated aerial combat gives the crossover enough substance to be more than a cosmetic tie-in, and the August 18 launch should make this one of the more interesting Season 4 additions.
