Battlefield 6’s Top Gun collaboration arrives today, August 18, bringing the return of Wake Island, the new Carrier Strike limited-time mode, Fighter Sweep aerial combat and new jets as Season 4 enters its second phase.
Battlefield 6 is heading back to one of the series’ most recognisable battlegrounds as EA and Battlefield Studios roll out the next major phase of Season 4.
The Top Gun collaboration launches on August 18, expanding the season’s Pacific Front with new multiplayer and REDSEC content built around aerial and carrier-based warfare.
It follows the arrival of Naval Warfare earlier in Season 4 and builds on the content previously detailed in Tech Torque Media’s Battlefield 6 Top Gun preview.
Wake Island returns to Battlefield 6
The biggest addition for long-time Battlefield players is the return of Wake Island.
First seen in Battlefield 1942 and revisited several times since, the island has been reimagined again for Battlefield 6. EA says the new version has been built around the scale and systems of the current game while retaining the identity that made Wake Island one of the franchise’s most famous maps.
The Battlefield 6 version also leans directly into Season 4’s Naval Warfare theme. Offshore aircraft carriers form part of the battlefield, while the map supports land, sea and air combat around its familiar curved island layout.
Carrier Strike becomes the headline Top Gun mode
The Top Gun phase also introduces Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a limited-time multiplayer mode designed around the naval and aerial focus of the collaboration.
Carrier Strike puts aircraft carriers at the centre of the battle and gives Battlefield’s combined-arms formula another major showcase. Infantry, vehicles and aircraft all have a role as teams fight to control the battlefield and pressure the opposing side.
For a series built around unpredictable encounters between soldiers, armour and aircraft, the Top Gun crossover fits unusually naturally into Battlefield 6 rather than feeling like a purely cosmetic event.
Fighter Sweep expands REDSEC’s aerial combat
REDSEC is also getting a dedicated Top Gun mode in the form of Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep.
The mode shifts the emphasis firmly towards air combat, giving players another way to experience Battlefield 6’s aircraft away from the usual ground-focused objectives.
EA’s Season 4 roadmap also confirms new Top Gun-themed jets as part of the August 18 phase, adding further variety for players who spend most of their Battlefield time in the cockpit.

Season 4 has already placed much greater emphasis on naval warfare, with the Pacific Front, Tsuru Reef and new water-based gameplay systems expanding Battlefield 6 beyond its traditional land-heavy combat.
